Local Artist Nancy (June-Marie) Morrissey will display art work from her gallery series “American Fronter” at The Arts Federation Wells Community Cultural Canter in Lafayette during the month of November 2023. This series of original acrylic paintings was inspired in part by characters in prior years’ Feast of the Hunters’ Moon. Nancy specializes in acrylic paintings of people within a larger scene that tell a story. Events such as the Feast provide inspiration for characters and scenes that illustrate commentary about our society. She tries to show uplifting situations where the positive nature of individuals comes out to help others despite their diversity. “Bound for the Promise Land” shows people of diverse ages, genders and ethnicities working together to establish a new life in the new world. Feast of the Hunters’ Moon reenacts Bound for the Promised Land that celebration, as depicted in “Fortress of the Heart.” In “Home Cooking” all ages industriously prepare the campsite meal. Settlers and Native Americans shared knowledge and goods for their mutual benefit, another major theme of the Feast, as illustrated in “Fertile Ground” among others.
