Group Show
“Your Mileage May Vary” is an idiom used to acknowledge the unique differences of people with a shared experience or identity. In this show, each of the artists contributes their unique perspective within the shared LGBTQ+ experience to create a gallery about diversity within diversity. They bring their stories to life together through photography, paint, print, and drag, that quintessentially queer performance art, represented here by handmade costumes and wigs. This multimedia exhibit is a collective illustration of the beautiful paradox of the interconnectedness of individually shaded expressions within our LGBTQ+ community.
This exhibit includes pieces by:
Max Maneater (they/them) is an Indianapolis-based producer, burlesque dancer, and emcee who began their journey at an “open mic night” for newbies. Approximately two billion rhinestones later, they haven’t stopped entertaining. Known for creative costuming and slow-burn reveals, Max lights up the stage with a lot of glitter, a dash of storytelling, and a nod to traditional burlesque elements. When Max isn’t entertaining, you can find them volunteering with Indy Drag Theatre, taking a new class, or picking rogue rhinestones out of the carpet.
Bowie Thompson (he/him) is a trans artist who challenges the beliefs of his community with the art he creates. He shows the beauty of queer love and sexuality through a compassionate lens in his pieces. He hopes to hold a safe space for the LGBT+ community everywhere he shares Stellacious Art.
34-year-old African American queer artist Nicholas Burrowes (he/him) focuses on the human condition, sense of self and community, and what makes us who we are. Through various mediums Nicholas creates artwork that focuses on the human experience.
Noctife (they/them) is an artist rooted in the Midwest, exploring visceral vulnerability through art for the sake of collective healing. Through their work they hope to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplativeness about our place in the universe, the energies we express and indulge in, and our relationships to the self & to others. They’re currently working on their “Visions from the Void” series, which explores transformations of the self through catharsis.
