I am a retired editor who has been making pottery for more than 50 years. I create wind chimes, mobiles, whimsical figurines, tiles, pots, bowls, and vases from stoneware clays. I mix many of my own glazes.
Much of my work is inspired by nature, but the ideas for my whimsical figurines, which I’ve named “Franksters,” burble up from my subconscious. I enjoy producing functional ware, but the only function of my chimes, mobiles and Franksters is to inspire joy.
I began making pottery when two friends and I built a kick wheel in 1970 from plans in Mother Earth News magazine. I am mostly self-taught, but I took several community college pottery courses in the 1970s.
