“Antarctica: Anticipating the Adventure” is a textile design project inspired by the artist’s research into Antarctica. The project began with a simple question about the number of hours of daylight, which led to the creation of a series of textile pieces depicting various aspects of the continent, such as the convergence of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Southern oceans, the ebb and flow of ocean tides, and the stormy impression of Drake’s Passage. The exhibition will feature full-sized and mini versions of the quilts, which traveled to Antarctica in January. Each piece will have a written description of the concept and an explanation of how it is woven into the textile. “Antarctica: Anticipating the Adventure” is a continuation of the artist’s textile and visual journey inspired by travel.
