“Dwelling”
My works revolve around the fragility of nature and the materials I use. My inspiration comes from natural homes such as bird and hornets nest, and the repetition of those shapes in nature. I play with repetition of circles, symbolizing the opening of the cliff swallow nests I observe, as well as the circle of renewal. In layering the materials through collage, I can see beyond the surface of those forms as well. The bright colors and textures I lean into are suggested from elements such as moss and lichen. Through painting, printing, and throwing porcelain and stoneware forms made from the combination of hand building with slip, I can imitate the nests themselves.
