“Pareidolia“
Pareidolia is an installation directly referencing the phenomenon of recognizing imagery or patterns when none are intended. Over 250 inkblots were created over a 4 year period; due to a fixation on Sumi ink. Sonny’s hope is to remove inkblots from the sterile and clinical setting they were originally created and held within. She hopes to use them as a way to spark fun conversation about how everyone views things differently.
This exhibit is intended to be interactive and allows guests to flip through a hand-bound book with a collection of 100 inkblots. The purpose of Pareidolia is to create playful conversation about what we see and how we all interpret things differently depending on mood and memories. Guests have the option to fill out a booklet with what they interpret while visiting. This feedback will be compiled to create a collaborative collection of interpretations afterwards.
Sonny is a multimedia digital and traditional artist. Her traditional work balances abstraction and recognizable organic shapes in a playful and warm way. Sonny’s work is best described as soft, experimental and fun. She holds a humble curiosity towards using new methods and mediums.
She creates with the hope to inspire and motivate others to go and try something different. Sonny’s studio is based in Brookston, IN.
