About me

My name is Esayas Zerazion.

I reside in Brownsburg, IN.

I am a devoted husband and father of three boys. Since my teenage years, art has always been my passion. I have been

a self-taught pencil drawing artist for most of my young age.

I continued to focus on pencil drawing until a few years ago when I was introduced to scratchboard medium at El Camino College(Torrance, California). Then, I was enrolled and had the privilege of learning more about scratchboard medium from the esteemed illustration instructor, Professor Richard Ewing. Since then, scratchboard has become one of my favorite forms of art.

Title: focusing on highlight

Medium: Scratchboard

Concept:

Scratchboard, also referred to as scraperboard, is an art technique that involves the use of a monochromatic dark drawing medium. Artists create intricate and detailed artworks by carefully scratching away the dark ink to reveal the underlying white layer. This is typically done using a precision tool, such as a scratchboard nib in a pen holder, allowing for fine control and intricate detailing.

The unique quality of this art form lies in its ability to create luminous highlights on the subjects, contrasting them against the dark background to render shadows and depth. It’s a meticulous and precise technique that rewards patience and attention to detail.

Personally, my passion lies in using scratchboard to craft highly detailed portraits of both humans and animals. The technique allows for an incredible level of intricacy and precision, making it the perfect medium for capturing the depth and character of my subjects.
