Nicholas is a Midwestern African American queer artist focusing primarily on portrait photography. He received a B.F.A. from Kansas State University. Much of his work aims to start conversations about the human condition and how we perceive others in the world around us. An early interest in sociology has been a driving force in many of his works including the ongoing series “Home”. He has previously shown work at the Mark A. Chapman Gallery as well as TAF.
Selections from Home
Home is a collection of photographs showing nude men inside of their homes. The photographs are taken in a place they feel describes them. I’ve always been told to dress in order to show the version of myself I want people to see. That is part of the reason I’ve made the choice to photograph the men nude. My interest is in looking beyond the layers we build up. I’m seeking another method of taking a portrait that describes the individual in a different way. Home is an ongoing series.
