In 2012 I moved back to West Lafayette from San Francisco to begin a life of coming home to take care of my family. Returning to my Indiana roots has been productive artistically and I have completed several series of gouache paintings on wood veneer. Additionally, since returning to West Lafayette I have also completed my Chandeliers & Fountains painting which consists of eighty paintings of alternating chandelier and fountain images. This piece is monumental and took eight years to complete. It was begun in San Francisco and finished in West Lafayette. In 2013 the piece won Best of Show at Indiana Now, presented by the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. It was only half completed. My work is visionary in nature yet based in observation of the natural world. I rely upon visions and dreams for much of my work. Since coming back to Indiana my work has been inspired by nature. My series Bouquet – The Flowers of Social Distance literally grew out of my love of growing dahlias. It was what I did during the Covid pandemic. I am interested in experimentation using unusual materials and media. I am also very interested in shaped paintings and multi-paneled constructions.
Outtakes
“Outtakes” is a show of paintings curated from my own inventory of art created over several decades. Much of the work as never been shown before. Some of the work in this show was made while I lived and worked in San Francisco and reflects a more urban landscape. Included also in the show is recent work created since returning to West Lafayette in 2012. My recent work is more based in nature. In this show I wanted to juxtapose work from different eras of my life, yet which have a common thread.
