A Closer Look
April 7 – 28, 2023
Wabash National Gallery
A Closer Look is a collection of photographs and art quilts created between 2018 and the present by two retired teachers: Sherry Brechbiel and Sarah Powley. Our work explores the natural world with all of its color, textures, and patterns. Some pieces are explicit interpretations while others move into the ambiguity of abstract design. All of the pieces are our personal reactions to the natural world, ranging from portraits of animals and plants to microscopic cross-sections. Our objective is to expand our viewers’ awareness of the beauty that can be found in even ordinary places and the inspiration that this beauty offers the artist. We hope people will leave the exhibit with a greater appreciation of nature’s diversity and for the intricacy of natural landscapes.
