Embracing Yourself by Hoijin Jung focuses on the interdependence of every living creature and living in integrity with one’s dreams. In this exhibition, Jung contemplates the meaning of dreams. Works on view consist of symbols from the artist’s dreams that are created with various printmaking techniques such as relief, lithograph, and etching.
About the Artist
“Inspired by serious environmental issues and global degradation, my recent work depicts these characters in gloomy and apocalyptic landscapes. The reason is that our prosperity comes from the cost of nature and this will threaten our future and survival.
Most of my work have stories with several symbols such as fire, water, smoke, or fish representing my experiences and imaginations. The stories have been described as disturbing images with fragmented figures, plastic shards, and charcoal powder. These images are a part of our lives as a shadow and they push the viewers to know about the situation. Creating artwork is the extension of my prayer for symbiosis, hope, and a warning to humanity.
