I am a Chicana artist interested in exploring reality and perception through photography. In my self portraiture, photography is both the medium and the subject. I combine stacked or broken mirrors with largely printed photographs to create confusing, illusionistic imagery. Recently, my process has consisted of spending 1-2 hours locked in a photo studio with some mirrors, my camera, and a singular darkroom lamp. I started taking photos around 10 years old but didn’t begin to explore fine art photography until university. I’d say I learned my discipline in part from years of photography classes and intensives leading up to college, and now, as a rising senior at Purdue University, I’ve learned to hone my photography skills more toward making fine art imagery.
